So I have a '90 z32 na auto. Which has some annoying transmission issues. I have found a 85 300zx z31 manual 5speed with the older gen 3.0 v6. What I'm wondering is, is that can the older manual trans bolt up to the z32 engine. I can get a custom length drive shaft if need be. If it fits, what else do I need to do in order for it to work. I know the ecu for auto n manual are different on the z32. Can I just somehow bypass the auto trans sensors? Lengthy and detailed comments please

The later Z31s and all Z32 (manual of course) run a RS5R30A, these I believe are interchangable, or may require a bell housing swap so if you already have the old trans you have what you need. The earlier Z31 ran a Borg Warner T5, not sure about that one, the bell housings to engine mating surface/pattern should be the same since the blocks didn't change when the transmission did but as far as everything else you may want to check the z32 wiki or search through the FSMs if you can find one, we no longer host the FSMs.

The T5 is can not be swapped for sure. the others as stated would at least require a front case swap, not sure if the input shafts are the correct length, I kinda think they are not so it would require a fair amount of parts swapping to make one work. The 87.5-89 used basically the same trans as the z32 but again the case and input shaft length would be the issue. The input shaft length keeps the z31's form swapping into the earlier chassis, I don't recall if the z31 and z32 has a similar length input shaft, I do know they use the same splines for the clutch disk as do all other nissan datsuns and infiniti's that i have found to date.
