If I swap my Ka engine with a sr30det will I still pass emmisions in the state of Georgia? My friends 79 Corvette passed...if that can pass I would surely think a Jap 2.0 turbo 4cyl would

Yes and no. Yes it can pass, no it will not pass any visual inspections. And no it still may not passed if running improperly. I think cars that are 20 years and older are excluded from emissions. At least here in WA they are.

Sup Lepchitz1, I will have the SR swap done in about a month with my left over insurance money, I live right down the road, so I'm sure we can find a place that'll pass our cars emmisions.

because the engine itself is illegal. i'm sure it wouldn't have much problem passing the smog tests, but there are also a lot of other things to consider when trying to make emissions smaller, other than displacement and hp.

i asked the same question but nobody replied.i was thinking of doing that with my last 240,but i didnt know where to pass it so i didnt.oh well.i read on some sight(maybe even in this one somewhere) that people were putting about 195-200 proof alcohol(about 1-2 quarts, along with half tank) in their gas tanks and it would burn extremely clean.im not saying do this, but look for it and ask the people themselves.

The reason it can get pretty close to not passing is because at idle the stock SR ecu tells the engine to run a little bit rich (in order to protect the engine from possible detonation), this can make a big difference if the cat isnt heated. When he turbo takes heat away from the cat and is running rich it puts out a lot of pollutants for a longer period of time. Its one of the reasons the WRX has 3 cats, so that it can filter out the pollutants more efficiently when warming up.

If the SR isnt running too the proper specifications and isnt tuned properly (usually because of sensors, plugs, the usual), it will run really really rich at idle.
