Will a HUD from a SOHC 240 work in a DOHC 240?

Junkyard has everything for 1/2 off today... there is an 89 240 w/ 100,400 miles on the odo... it has the full dash, HUD, cover (i found it in ANOTHER 240, DOHC w/ HUD but the cluster was missing), so my question is..

If I get the wiring, cluster & HUD unit, will it work in my 93 240? (it's out of an 89)

Are you sure it was a 89? I'm pretty sure HUD only came in 91-93 SE coupes.

Yes it will work, but there are a few things you should know. the HUD cars have a special front windsheild so you can see the speed on the windsheild, get this would be expensive. My freind has it on his 91 coupe and says its really hard to see the speed on the windsheild durring the day and thats WITH the special surface the hud projects onto.

I think the cluster is sweet Though, I would love to get the Hud gauge cluster for my car.

yeah I know its got that special spot on the windshield, i dont really need the hud.. I think the digi speedo would be cool

dunno if i want to go get it tho.. not sure how much it'll cost and im broke!

no, all 89-93 240 coupes had the HUD option. i have always been told that the tach will not work between the two. i know everything else will (especially the HUD and harness). everything on the cluster will work except the tach.

i did the swap, but i do not use the HUD. my car is too nice to cut up the dash, and i dont want to buy a new windshield, bc like he said, they are expensive. the HUD will work without the windsheild though, it just wont be as clear as it would with the windsheild.

according to this it was an option for the 89, i checked the 90 one too, and it was an option also

i had hud on my current car, 89 coupe. but took it out for analog... it wasnt working so yeah...

currently running HUD dash in an 89 coupe, with a DE swap. SOHC HUD will work on a DOHC motor. all that is required is the DOHC tach and your in business.

feint240 - my hud did turn on... just ONCE though... when it was REALLY REALLY HOT. like i was literally sweating in my car then i realized the hud was on... but at 0MPH because my speed sensor is also screwed .

Twinchy - i have a semi-broken 9k jdm tach if you want for free. not sure if it still work lol, but you can have it for free and try it out if you want

you know, a slightly more economical option to replacing the whole windshield would be to get a matte finish tape and put it where the HUD projects onto...from what i hear that's hwo the aftermarket systems work

^ i heard/read the same thing before. someone used like 3m reflective tape or something. they put in a hud in a hatch
