Will a DOHC motor mount up to the transmission in my 94 Hardbody p/u with a manual trans?

you prob have to modify the starter or bellhousing. maybe the truck de doesnt have the ring on the block for the starter.

a 240sx longblock can bolt into the truck, but has a few disadvantages. First of all like 250sx said the 240sx de blocks have a block girdle on the rear of the block where it mounts to transmission. Because of this you are limited to only using the 240sx starter and flywheel/clutch (which is smaller than your original hardbody 240mm clutch) the 240sx blocks cannot use l/z/ka truck flywheels without dangerous spacer modifications. If this truck is a 2wd you may not have problems with attaching the truck pan to the 240sx block, but on 4x4 the pans do not fit with the main girdle without modification.

The ka24de from the frontier is the best swap for the hardbodies, these use basically a sohc block (sohc truck block) which has a standard starter and flywheel. Would be a direct swap into the D21 physically. They also use a sohc crank driven type distributor so any ka24e one will work. BTW: these ka24de's can use 240sx intake manifolds.

Problem is, frontier ka24de's are not an easy find, you may want to go headswap.

No strange flywheel spacers for me. Im using a kae/z22 flywheel. You can put a z24/kade flywheel but you will have to get the bigger clutch.

The 240sx ka crankshaft is at least 1/4" shorter overall than a ka truck/z22/z24 or any other z or L. The difference in length is in the rear main seal/flywheel mounting portion of the crank. The offset of the flywheels is different, if you use the non 240sx flywheels on 240sx block and crank the ring gear/starter will be that much off (will most likely work, obviously, although premature wear on those components? possibly). Also the throwout bearing distance may be off depending on which pressure plate/throwout bearing you use, as there is a few options. White Bunny over on FA did this swap long ago and posted up his findings, he used a 1/4" spacer + ka/z24 240mm flywheel (truck).

Now a ka truck crank would go into a 240 block although ring gear/starter distances become and issue, and the starter mounting setup on the 240 block is difficult to modify and/or swap different starter motors.

Im not saying it wont operate with just the straight swap, yours obviously does. You may want to inspect your starter and ring gear next time you have a chance for any odd wear.
