Hey yall.. I'm getting ready to buy a 92 Q with a motor from a 96.. I didn't think it made any difference since they are both g50, but another member brought it to my attention that its a mismatch and it won't work at all and it gonna cause a mess of problems... Can anyone lemme know what ill be dealing with or what I should expect? I'm not to concerned with the looks of the car but more of dependabilty right now..... So any help is greatly appreciated, thanks

Phil

Harnesses are quite different, and the 1996 VH45DE is the least powerful because it does not have the intake camshaft advance.

Unless you have a lot of free time, might look for something less of a project.

Well I'm not really worried so much about power, my main concern is will the car drive ok? Like will it have any issues with it? I know the car will pass smog cuz he already got it done... But just everyday driving is what ime worried about

Yea it should be fine if it all was installed correctly.

Do you know for a fact who did that kind of work on the car?

Did you get the service history on the car to see what prompted the previous owner to go with a 1996 Q45 drive train?

What about any other receipts or a Carfax? If the owner is motivated he will provide both.

I wonder if he changed out to the later transmission?

It would be good to have the later TCU if he did.

I can fill everyone in,

The car is a 92. The Donor car was a 12/95 production date G50.

Engine and Transmission were swapped over. ECU and engine harness were swapped as well to match the 94+ style engine harness. The 96 TCU was used. I have FULL schematics for 89-96 G50s. I was able to use the existing trans harness. Just like everyone else that swaps in the later TCU to get the 1st gear start. The engine is a VH45DE. It is has the intake cam VVT. It makes the same power as the original 92 Q45. The donor car was a lower mileage well maintained G50. It was involved in an accident that totalled out the front end and one of the rear 1/4 panels, but the car was still drivable. In the moves I have made over the past 2 years I lost the maintainance records for the donor vehicle, but it was maintained by the Infiniti Dealer in Redwood city Ca near Whipple. I can provide a vin for anyone that want to look it up there.

The 92 chassis has 140K on it currently. To be honest it has had a rough life, but Ive spent alot of time and money making sure the mechanical side of the car is spot on. There are a few things to be ironed out still but nothing that is a major problem or will contribute to a major problem down the road. Things like its missing the rear most muffler. Passes Ca dyno smog. Car runs very clean on a dyno I was quite amazed.

Anyway, hope that answers a few questions. If your having a hard time grasping the 96 model year, just think of it as a 95 model G50 and life will be easier cause its not the Cima chassis with the VH41 96 model

I knew this was your car congrats on selling it.

To Original Poster, If you want to have the stock or quiet Q45 look or sound I have the rear "suit case" or muffler.

Good luck on the problem.

The exhaust noise won't bother me, my first Q had the same thing done to it by previous owner, and honest$ly I compared it to a stock corvette sound... So its ok with me, the only thing ima do is prolly get it paint all one color and maybe throw on some g35 rims or something idk lol... But thanks

Why do you want to buy a 17 year old gas guzzling boat in the first place?

Cars not sold yet. Hope it does... my driveway is full of Nissan products. Need the room. Been through everything on the car that could have possibly gone wrong with a thrashed 92 G50...

Donor car was this poor thing,

Shortly after this picture it was completely torn down and hauled off to the recyclers.
