Car: Looking for a 1971 Datsun 510 and a 1971 Datsun 240Z in need of restoration

Post

So, let me start of saying i am 16 looking for a 71' 510, but would also love to have a 71' 240z, both in need of a restoration. Dont lose interest because you picture me as a snot nosed brat that doesnt know what hes talkin about... no, i am very mechanically inclined, but i have never owned a datsun. my neighbor has a fully restored 71' 240z and thats what set me out on the datsun hunt. i would rather have a 71' 510 but i want to know if the two extray cylinders from a 240 will fit under the hood without moving the fire wall or needing to cut very much... im sure that this has been done but how much work??? i am willing to put blood, sweat, time, tears, and money into something... please respond!!! thank you!!!!

it's a good deal of work.

I'd suggest finding a dime with an 4 cylinder L series in it.

they're great little motors and honestly, anything more than about 200hp in the car becomes unruly.

Papi Chulo, I thank you a great deal for the pic that helps alot!!! And to Mr1der, what would you suggest doing to a little motor as that. I cannot find light flywheels anywhere!!! I mess with MG's with my dad all of the time and his little midget has a 1500 in it but its a small car so alot of fun come out of it. The only thing I worry about with one of these 510's is is the power enough to have fun in??? Thanx again and Merry Christmas!!!

I have owned 240 powered 510's and they are a blast but you either have to cut out the rad support or move the firewall back to clear the extra 2 cylinders. My 510 had the complete 240 power train including the 5 speed and rear diff making for a top speed around 130mph.

Got rid of her about 15 years ago after the rocker and floor broke from the lower door hinge to the transmission tunnel. 1 too many big jumps at 80 mph.I don't even have any pics anymore.
