So I am going to be driving my 90 z32 na 133k auto to AZ from ND in may moving back. The car I haven't owned for long now maybe 2 months has been a little bit of a problem child but I've gotten it mostly cleared up since buying it. All the repairs/ maintenance done to in the past 2 months: Reman fuel injectors, new clamps on fuel lines + new hoses, New fuel pressure regulator, changed the oil + filter, New PTU, New spark plugs, new coil pack boots, new valve cover gaskets+ plenum gasket. Bypassed all the intake manifold coolant lines with new hoses. The car came complete with service records looks very well maintained here is a list of Repairs/ maintenance: Trans Rebuilt at 90k miles, had the spark plugs, Timing belt, and belts changed at 84K, the timing was advanced not sure around what mileage because of a vibration or hesitation for some reason by the Nissan dealership, new tires, and new battery about 2 months before I bought it. it runs a little rough at first start will stall with out the accelerator depressed but, runs perfect after it is fully warmed, Timing Maybe? also am going to get the tires balanced/ rotated and aligned before I go. Let me know what if you think this car will make the trip or if you think I will be stranded somewhere in WY UT CO or MT. also thing to check before I go Thanks! Also would love to hear about some similar long distance travels in your zs!

Welcome to NICO.

I moved this to the 300ZX forum. When well sorted, the 300ZX is pretty reliable.. IMO I'd probably chance it, it doesn't sound that bad, but it's hard to get an idea with just the description you gave...

i can't see why you'd have a problem, just be sure to bring a few screwdrivers and a socket set just incase something minor needs a tweak. other than that, when i picked up my JDM Z a couple years ago i drove it back and found a lot of interesting things along the way that the seller in canada failed to mention.. drive shaft, tires, brakes, boost, wheel bearings, vacuum leaks, front end damage, fog lights broken, etc etc

edit: my drive back through the rocky mountains was 1000+km (~620 miles)

side note: most JDM dealers IN japan are great, i met up with a lying douche bag canadian who was trying to offload it fast because of the problems

i hope the weather is great for your trip and sunny!

I used to drive mine back and fourth between Seattle and Southern California when I was in school. The Z is no different than any other car when it comes to driving it long distances. A car that's running well and has been mainted good should have zero problems. There is always a chance of something breaking though regardless of what you drive.

"Hard starting after it sits for awhile" sounds like you should check your fuel pressure. I did see where you mentioned a new fuel pressure regulator. However, there's also the fuel damper, fuel filter, fuel pump, a bad new fuel pressure regulator, or a fuel line clamp that didn't get tightened enough, or one that was overlooked.

No smell of gas, primed the fuel lines before starting it, still no difference. Funny thing is when I first go to start it if i feather the gas a little it will run on first turn(roughly) but if i dont it will start for a second and die, then it takes alot of cranking to actually get it to start, sounds like it wants to start, but wont catch. Im puzzled on this my worry is I am going to ruin the starter from cranking so much.
