I have the katana rims w/ 205/40r17 right now. I was wondering if I would be able to install 235/45r17's.

How will that affect rubbing/driving/etc? I'm kind of confused w/ the 205, 215, 235, etc stuff.

I'm hoping that 235 will give more traction so the cars holds the ground better.

Thanks guys

ITS A SLIM CHANCE THAT IT WOULD FIT...I THINK THE BIGGEST I COULD GO WAS 225-45-17

IM RUNNING 215-45-17 AND TRACTION SEEMS GOOD...NO RUBBING...AND HAS GREAT GRIP AROUND CORNERS... BUT I GUESS ITS ALL REALLY ON THE PATICULAR TIRE...BECAUSE THE 240 IS LIMITED IN TIRE WIDTH, U CAN ONLY GO SO WIDE... ASK A TIRE SHOP I THINK THEYRE BETTER INFORMED...

A 205/40-17 is often fitted to a high offset 17x7" wheel for use on a Honda(most common application evar!1) the bigger tire is too big. You don't want to squeeze a tire onto a wheel and deform the intended carcass dynamic. Tramlining and uneven wear are common complaints

Q45tech always posts that grip is a function of friction coefficients, not necessarily tread width or design.

205 is width in MM40 denotes 40% of 205mm17 is rim diameter

205 x 40% = 82mm sidewall heightx 2 = 164mm + 17"(431.8mm) = 595.8mmconvert from metric to standard (595.8mm / 25.4) = 23.46" tire OD

235 x 45% = 105.75mm sidewall heightx 2 = 211.5mm + 17"(431.8mm) = 643.3mmconvert from metric to standard (643.3mm / 25.4) = 25.33" tire OD

Thanks for the good info. Yes, my 205 rims/tires are form an acura integra :) that I bought for my 240. I ran across a pair of 235 for really cheap and was just wondering if that would work at all.

So I'm guessing I'd have to buy rims that are made specifically for that kind of width.

Thanks a bunch. So, anyone want some 235 tires? :).
