hi. i searched on the web and most sites say that 225/40/17 won't fit on 17x7 rims and i would need at least 17x7.5. i asked local tire shops and they said that they would fit fine. has anyone on here used this combination? thanks

im assuming you have a 240, 225/40 is too small, run a 225/45/17, and it should be ok

It -might- fit, but a 225/45 would be much better.

my bad. it's 225/45/17. i just don't want to be stuck buying the drag dr-8's and not having the tires fit on them...

The tires will fit that rim fine, but I wouldn't go any wider than that.

I'm assuming it has a fwd offset(+40>). If so, coilovers shouldn't be in your immediate future unless you want to invest in spacers.

The tire will fit on the rim. I had that tire on the back of my s13 with 17x7 +42's with coilovers, and it cleared. However, it wont clear coilovers in the front. A 205/40 WILL clear up front with that given wheel.

205/40 is *way* too short though, you need a 205/50/17 for this car

plus 205/40 looks like rubber bands

215/40's end of story...

*Edit* I meant 215/45's but both will be fine..

the offset on the rims is +40. my car is stock when we talk about suspension. i'm pretty much stuck with using 225/45/17 because i bought a brand new set of 4 kuhmo 712 ecsta supra for considerably cheap compared to local shops. now for the clearance part, i'm not too sure as to how it will fit. however, you guys did confirm that 225/45/17 will fit on a 7" rim. thanks a bunch guys

Depending on the offsets. Anything over +40ish is going to be REALLY close.

i mounted them on a 17x7 + 42 offset rims. they clear with very little room to spare. it rubs in the front when i do super hard braking. other then that it's fine even when i fully turn the wheel.. i'll probably invest in some spacers when i lower the car. thanks for the help everyone.

yeah those wheels are made for typically the front wheel drive crowd. 240s take really low offset wheels and what sucks is they shove us with 4 lug... can easily throw a 2 inch spacer on there no problem... but it might be unsafe not sure lol.

225/45 will be good you shouldn't stretch as theres a lot of sunken gap you need to fix.
