There are a few recent posts on this topic!
My comments (some of which are my personal opinions - which you are entirely free to ignore ):
1. Stick with 18" OEM and get outstanding tires for it instead!
2. Please, don't do larger than 20" ... anything else just overpowers the look of the car. I saw a smaller Mercedes today with gaudy 22" rims and it looked ugly as hell from the side.
3. All 22" rims will be incredibly susceptible to bending and breakage.
4. All potholes and highway bumps will be painful experiences, if they do not break the rim, the minimal sidewall of the tire will not protect you much.
5. With 22", the tire availability (in the right load index and right speed rating) is not good enough, IMHO.
6. The added weight of the wheel will reduce performance and acceleration - the suspension assumes a certain amount of sidewall flex in the tire, which the lower aspect ratio tires of a 22" will not meet.
