***NEVER MIND***
I went back to the gym with the some tools to see if I could figure out the problem - my wife turned the ignition off with the car in drive. Put in park, started right up. It was a valiant effort on her part to aggravate me, but she didn't cost me too much money, just a cab ride from the gym.
***NEVER MIND***
First of all, my wife has the ability to break things in such a manner that I am dumbfounded as to how she breaks them. Tonight was another example of her unfortunate ability.
We pulled up to the gym and she mentioned that one speaker sounded like it wasn't working. The connection is loose and I have to turn the volume WAY up to get it to kick back on. I went to adjust the volume knob and my wife (who was driving), quickly and violently wrenched the key to the off position...and then she couldn't get the key out and couldn't get the car to start. Outstanding.
I pushed and pulled on the release button to no avail. Fortunately there was a Big Lots right there, so I bought a pair of pliers to get a grip on the button and managed to push/pull it to the point that I could release the key. The key goes in and I can turn it, but the car won't start. When you attempt to pull the key out, you really have to push hard on the release button.
So what the hell did my wife break? Do I need to take apart the collar around the ignition and fiddle with something? Is the release button locked in place or misaligned and preventing the car from starting? Do I need a whole new ignition switch?
