It's currently 10 degrees and around 4pm this afternoon, I got in my car to go to the store for my wife. Started her up, buckled my seatbelt, put it in reverse and backed out the driveway. Normal so far right? Well I put it into "D'"and slapped the shifter to the left for manual mode. I proceeded up the street only to noticed that I still had D in my dash and it wasn't in manual mode. I took it out of manual mode and into auto and back into manual mode again but nothing worked. The D was still up on the gauge. So when I got to the stop sign, I placed the car into park and shut off the car; waited a second and pushed the button to start it. The car sputtered to start. I did this about three time with the same result. Finally the fourth time, it sputtered but it finally started. All the dash lights went on and I was like I put the shifter into D and into manual mode and this time the #1 appeared. Again I was like Did my errand and everything is fine. Did I not warm the car up enough? Has anyone in the cold north such as Canada experience this yet?

5 degree mornings... cold... ha!

I've never tried to go into manual mode right away from the get go, so I don't know. If all the lights are still on maybe it's worth a stealership trip.

Do you drive the car in manual mode a lot, because I do and I have experienced the dash registering the wrong so called gear a few times

I always drive my car in manual mode. that's what caught my attention; the car shifting as I went down the street and I didn't even shifted yet.

This morning it was just as cold so i went out to the car and started her up followed by putting her in Drive and into manual mode. Manual mode went right up and in with no issues unlike it did yesterday morning. Maybe it was a fluke or something but I couldn't replicate it today Could be good could be bad.

What do you guys think, call the dealership anyway and have them take a look even though? To me, if I do bring her into the dealer, at least it was documented.

How much gas did you have in your gas tank; you may of had froozen gas in the lines and that could have caused a sputtery start, but that would not explain the car not going into manual mode though.

I would plan a visit to the dealer. I've just gone through four days of -20 weather and no problem with the transmission, or with starting. It shifts to manual mode (the way I always drive it) no problem, although, when ice cold the transmission does rev higher than normal until it warms up. Usually, I let the engine warm up, but I've had a couple of cases where I didn't have the time. Still, no problem except that the CVT revved a bit higher until it was warm. I drive conservatively until everything is warmed up.

I like you drive conservatively and always use manual mode. I always warm the car up too, especially in cold morning unfortunately I didn't have time to let it warm that morning. Maybe it is the cold that affected the transmission not shifting into manual mode however I'm particularly concerned about the sputtering when I tried to start it a couple of times

One experience I have encountered is while in manual mode in the cold after i would shift it would kinda get stuck coming back up to its idle position. Instead of normally popping right back into place, it took its time so to speak haha. This went on for a few days and kinda just went away. Maybe related, perhaps not. Just my .02
