Well I just installed the z32 mafs in my s14 sr20det, I have the safc2 so it is programed right, But when I try to start my car when it is cold it takes forever, It will crank and catch then shut off, then after a while it will start. When it does start it sputters pretty bad and if I hit the gas it will almost stall while sputtering, but above like 2000rpms it revs smoth. When it is warm it starts on the first try, and revs smother under 2000rpms. Have there been grounding problems with the z32 maf? Ive tried researching this, but no other posts had this problem.

Thanks for the help,-Jon

i would try using some carb cleaner or starting fluid to help it start. if that makes it start better then you are starting lean. if you are starting lean on cold days then ect may be bad causing the ecm to substitute a warmer value.

also, check your base idle. it may be too low. in that case the motor will be running too rich at startup. this could cause a stumble when you snap the throttle(still cold) but it should run better after the throttle has been open for a while.

I had to add about 7% of fuel at 1000 rpm on the low setting cause the car wanted to die, too little fuel. I'm sure it could use more cause it still sputters. I could see this problem being 2fold for the s14 sr cause the ecu was programmed to run lean for emissions. Good luck.

i have the same problem with my z32 maf on my kat with safc. my wideband reads a very lean condition. once it warms up its fine or after about a minute ill be able to rev it a little then it will idle good. i just put a stock maf back on today and i think i still have the same problem, the dec.air settings have alot to do with it also. im also running bigger injectors

Yeah, I added a little fuel at 1000- 1600 rpms and it seems to run a little better, I have not tried the carb cleaner. Thank you for your help.-Jon

No I have the SAFC II, There was something I overlooked, With my old MAF I was running rich because it was an S13 one and wasnt running right with my S14 motor, Well I had to lower my fuel pressure to compensate for the extra fuel put in by the MAF. Well when I swapped MAF's I forgot to put fuel pressure back to stock specs, now that fuel press. is right she runs beautiful, Thank you all for your help
