Ok so i have an 08 se coupe 6 spd. I am researching coilovers for my car and today when i had it on the lift i noticed the rear spring and shock are seperate but most of the online pics for coilovers for sale they are one piece (coil over shock) so my question is do i do away with the spring in its location and convert to coil over or are all the pics a general pucture and thus come seperat like factory?

Hi and welcome to NICO Club!

Coilover is a term that can be used accurately and loosely. Your understanding of coilover is accurate. Some people loosely refer to shock and spring sets as coilovers when they are indeed not. Maybe because the front ones are and the rear aren't, I'm not sure why.

For your car, yes, there are kits that are called coilover kits and they can have the separate spring and shock for the rear. Additionally, there are kits called coilover kits, also for your car, and they can have a true coilover in the rear. The spring bucket sits empty and unused.

Here's a neat thread that goes over a bunch of options for the Altima.

You'll notice discussion of the D2 setup and how that is a true coilover in the rear.

I hope that helps!

Yeah, it's a bit pricey, but often worth it in the long run. I think you might be better off saving for a while and getting what you really want instead of revising your goals. A coilover matches the damping of the shock to the rate of the spring. Do you want to increase traction, lower CG or just cut down on the wheel gap aesthetics?
