Ok, when I start my J, it makes a wierd growling noise when running it sounds kinda clangy and stuff too. The radio won't work either. Now if I shut the car off and restart immediately after starting it the first time it doesn't make any of the noises and it runs fine. What could be going on? I was thinking that maybe the starter isn't disengaging right or the ignition is acting up, but I really don't have a clue?? Anyone??

You definatly need a new flywheel, that's the clangy sound (your missing teeth) and possibly a new starter. I would get a new starter anyway since you need the flywheel replaced.

The Bose units are known to go on the J. You can pick a refurbished one at the dealer or go aftermarket. Pioneer makes a unit that fits the dash. Before you buy check all your connections first.

Thanks, I will look into that. I can only imagine what a pain in the *** it is going to be to pull the transmission and install a new flywheel. Got any idea what a new flywheel will cost me?

COOL...I want to get as many opinions as possible on this issue.

Anderson eh? I actually live in Noblesville so you are pretty close to me. Anyways, ever yanked the transmission out of a j30 before?

If I recall correctly the fly wheel and starter aren't that much. Check with the site sponsor.

youd probably have to hand crank the engine some how in order to see it...

I figure that once I get the starter out, I will have a buddy turn the crank by hand...which way does the motor turn naturally? If standing at the front of the car looking at the engine, do the belts go clockwise or counterclockwise?
