I had that issue and at first I thought it was the battery since mine is 5 years old already. I bought a new battery and it did the same issue. I found out that it was the intake throttle bodies. Having so much deposit in there, the throttle plate sensor readjust the closing of those plates. More junk means throttle plate is not totally closing at all . The sensor can only readjust so much.
So i decided to buy a throttle plate cleaner $5 and cleaned both.
Just a warning, make sure you never flip or open the throttle plate manually. If you do, the sensor setting will be screwed and you need to buy 2 new throttle bodies bec. The ECU will be throwing a lot of codes. The best way to do it is spray and soak the edges of the throttle plate and use a cotton buds. Be very patient and the crap will eventually dissolve. After cleaning it, you will be able to feel how smooth the acceleration and idling will be. And also no more stalling on start up. If your EX35 is 40k miles up, this might be your issue. Good luck!
