ok, i know that people say a bad timing chain makes a rattling sound, but i dont know if what my engine is making means i got a bad chain

it makes wierd clicking type sound, sounds somewhat plasticy, but not relaly rattling, and its coming from the front of the engine, anywhere from about 3" to 6" from the beginning of the valve cover. anybody got any ideas on what it could be? is it the chain and do i have to replace the whole thing or just the tensioner and remove that plastic part nissan says isn't needed?

i did search, and all i got was rattling stories

If it's a very very rapid clicking it is probably your fuel injectors, Nissan's are notorious for being noisy. That isn't a problem. Timing chain rattle usually comes from the very front of teh valve cover where the timing chain resides. See if you can get a mechanic's stethoscope and find out exactly where it's coming from.

Injectors most likely.

It might be a lifter, use a stethoscope. It will track down rattles u didnt know you had.

i havent gotten it checked yet, but i think it could be a lifter since it is coming from the valve cover and not an injector, how much it be to get it fixed and is it a huge issues that needs attention ASAP?

thanks for the help guys, it saw a mechanic today and he used that stetoscope and its the chain, but its not loud, its gonna get looked at in a bit to see if its that small metal guard on top or if its the tensioners, thanks again, matt
