Wierd race story today lol

So- I'm driving to school today and I'm going on an on-ramp (I-90w) and see this other guy in a black altima coupe 3.5. I accel to 65 ish and meet up w/ him (I'm on his left) and I wave/nod.

Typically... you think - oh yeah- another coupe- wassup brah!

Not this guy lol-

He raises his eyebrow, in one of those "yeah ok" looks, speeds up and goes to the far right lane ahead of me. I'm thinking wtf? lol what a jerk.

At this point I'm just like- ok he wants to be left alone- no biggie. So he then slows down and gets next to me again. (I still had my windows open- it was a BEAUTIFUL day) And he's like- 'Go on 3' I'm like- wtf?! w/e- so by this time the speed limit is 40ish off the ramp and were going about that- as soon as he yells '2', I downshift to 2nd so on '3' I slam the gas. He clearly didn't have any mods- but you could hear my car wind up and go. He was deff drivin a CVT.

As soon as we're going, me in 2, him in.... (w/e belt ratio lol) we are neck an neck? Then I had to shift- I powershift to 3rd and his car starts to slide forward. The rear of his window is to the front of mine at this point, and I then had to shift again, but at peak range, I stayed w/ him and then dropped off the gas cus my radar was going spectre v crazy. We both slow down and turns out he goes to the college next to me (I later found out).

Here's the kicker. He technically only saw the front of my car-(but still) and at the offramp signal he says "I can't believe I stayed up with your z" I look at him; dumbfounded and I say... "Actually... its the 2.5 Altima Coupe... the same car you drive just the 4 banger" He continues to say, "No s***, I didn't know they were close to speed, I thought it was just an econo-box <insert manly giggle here>"

We end up playin around another mile and a half and then I had to turn left for school... but still-

I mean yeah we were just f'in around- but... he had to know it wasn't a z right? ... right?

Either way- we were pretty evenly matched at that point. And it was his idea so I'm sure his foot was just to the floor. And I gave it w/e I had for my amusement mostly.

Anywho- I just wanted to share this with you guys

I had a weird race today myself.

Some bone stock 2001 Eclipse with some big girl (with her left leg propped up hanging out the driver window) and her friend in the passenger seat jamming with the windowz down beside me, I go from the red light and they hear my exhaust and launch ahead of me and I jump up a bit to not let them pass me since I was going to be taking a right soon, well, we started going through a curve, taking it pretty fast, then I hear their tires squeal and they almost spun out as I was going through the corner with relative ease and well, they weren't, lol. Was rather sad.

Nice Dan.. Obviously he's driving the 3.5 in CVT mode and not in manual. Blake is right..with 100+ horse more, it would have dusted the 2.5 (non turbo'd)

heyhey~ don't hate on bmore coupe's car! His is a cvt too but damn they are fast. I'm a relatively newbie stick driver, like I was rolling down hills when I first got my car and burned out my first set of tires pretty quick, so mabe i just suck but I have a hard time keeping up with cvts that have the same mods as mine. literally, same car, just cvt version. I'm probably the slowest shifter alive.

if your talking about going from a stop then its not just you. the 6mt has more WHP (less drivetrain loss) so it has more power and SHOULD be faster.... BUT every track day story I've heard from a 6MT altima coupe owners starts out like "I spun all through 1st gear". off the line the 6MT has trouble. I ran a 14.4 bone stock with my CVT and I've seen several 6MT time slips of them running much slower... from a roll, ya the 6MT is a little faster.

if your going around 60 already its best to just leave it in auto mode. if you CAN get it down to first or second "gear" in the tiptronic mode then it'd be better.

@ 60 your not getting into first, but second is feasible. I found the car faster in auto mode with regular mods. When I added the turbo it did work better in manual mode, but this was only due to the power band controlling the exhaust level more regularly to create the best psi.

In a 2.5, 60 is pretty much your limit in 2nd gear. Anything more than that, and it's a waste because ur over redline and your car dies down.
