Well, i am about to receive my new headgasket and headbolts. so hopefully ill get it done within two or 3 weeks.

now i know that isnt a question, this is: does anyone know anything about piston rings frying if ur HG goes bad? I had never heard of this as a problem, but one of the techs i work with says it's common.now, im not one to believe everything i hear, in fact i have LOTS of doubt in the truth in his statement. but, in the intrest of learning... has anyone heard of this?if not, then great!

thx all.

I think is a chicken before the egg kinda thing. How does he know that the same thing that caused the rings to fry aren't was damaged the head gasket (detonation)? I suppose it's possible, but I don't see the correlation.

have him inspect the bore while the head is off to check for any problems on the piston tops and cylinder walls. have him leak down test it directly after installing the head gasket, before he even finishes putting it back together completely, that way you can save some money on labor if they are in fact bad. make sure you request it, some people will think of it if they know your worried about it. but don't let them con you into more labor and money out of pocket if they say the rings are bad. if the leak down results are bad ask to have them performed while you watch to see for your self. if one of my customers would request this i would be more then happy to show them to gain their confidence and trust in myself and my work.
