i think my motor is realy strong for its year, but i question it when it makes this noise. i dnt realy kno how to describe it. its not exactly a ticking noise but more like a rubbing noise. its not loud, it realy doesnt sound that harmful or serious but it would b nice to fix it all the way. im thinkin a new valve job. or cam adjustment???

ne ideas???

ok, look you talk two places where is the noise comming in the case of the valves if your engine is over 100k miles is normal a moderate noise because normal wear of cams.in the other case if the noise comming from the front of engine is a timming chain tensioner/guides.. you have to listen carefully

Pop open the valve cover. Nissan had a TSB years ago about not needing the very top chain guide that sits over and in between the two cams. If its there just remove it and see if the noise remains.

NO. Don't remove the chain. I'm talking about the chain GUIDE. Its just a peice of flat metal that hangs over the chain in case the chain develops enough slack this guide will keep it from coming off the cam sprocket, well that was its original purpose. Later Nissan figured out that this guide is not needed. The problem is that when the chain gets a little stretched over time (like chains normally do) it starts hitting this guide making noise.
