I walked by a magazine rack and on the cover of one (I don't recall which) it had a silver 350z. The thing that caught my attention was the front mount looked like it had a piece of sheet metal covering it up. I know this may be a stupid question, but has anyone ever heard of this and is there a reason for it?

i dont know. i dont understand why they would do that because it would just restict airflow to the intercooler. maybe someone will find a pic of the car.

It may be an air-to-water intercooler which would look like a sheet of aluminum. Mounting it in the front would add cooling via air striking the outside of the core but it would restrict flow to the radiator. I'd have to see it to be sure.

I was looking through a different magazine today and I found another picture of the same car. I searched the driver's name on the internet and found a picture...

i dont really like the idea of turboing the 350zs motor i think itd be a better idea to sell that motor and swap in a rb26dett. i dont like the noise that car makes it sounds like a truck or a mammoth. errrrrrhmm

but yeah what they did to it or whoever did to it... the chrome rims lol, stickers that look like crap

I thought the whole point of a motor is for performance, not the sound of the motor. You do realize that the motor puts out ~280hp NA?The R36 skyline GTR will be using somewhat the same motor but twin turbo, ITB, built head, etc. aka VQ35DETT

poor 350z. but I've seen worst.

ITBs on a forced induction car wouldn't make since.

Correct me if I'm wrong... but the R34 doesn't have ITB.... at least not that I'm aware of... but I ould be wrong, just my two cents.

I does, I have stared at them from 10" away. Please don't make me scour the internet for a pic, that would cut into my p0rn gathering

it looks like a normal intake mani. but instead of have one throttle body you have multiple ones for each cylinder, inside the plenum....

I would think the only advantage to a big single would be top end flow on long pulls, the ITB should be more responsive in any other situation. IMO, I ain't John Lingenfelter

I don't know, I used to doubt turboing the VQ at all, but after seeing that video under the Multi-Media forum of the 350 beating 3 different TT Supras, I retracted my statements.
