I have a s13 1992 hatchback and I can't find the reason for a wierd creeky noise and sometimes a scraping. I just bought it and it only seems to be body damaged on the driver side, but everytime I going reverse it makes a scraping nooise like it is draging or a wierd loud creek or when I turn the steering wheel it make a wierd creeking noise and it seems to be getting to me. I took it to a friend place and he says the bearing is messed up and I need an alignment check, but another person says its the cv joint. I really don't know who is telling the truth or they really don't know what the their saying. oh yeah the car is still in stock form. Can anyone help me????

I'd check the plastic skid plate and see if any of it is hanging. As for a CV boot, FWD cars do sometimes have that problem. With the 240 being a RWD car, I think if a CV boot in the rear is torn and the bearings in there is rusted, it will make noise all the time. As for an alignment, does your car slowly turn to the left or right when you have your hands off the wheel while driving? If it does, then yep, you need an alignment.

For the noise again, I'd double check all the underside skid plates up front. Hope this helps!

I have a similar sound in my '91 FB. I believe it's the rear brake pads sticking to the rotors...for some reason it only does it in reverse. When I get some free time (ha ha!) I plan to adjust the handbrake and see if that fixes it. It only happens when I've left the car sitting with the handbrake on for a while, therefore that's what I intend to check out first.

does it actually make the creeking noise when you are in the process of turning the wheel? If so, then it is entirely possible that it could be either your steering rack or your tie rod ends. My car makes a magnificent squeal when I turn the whel to the right and I had a friend of mine get under the car while I turned the weel and he said that he can hear and feel that my TRE is what is making the noise.

check those things yo...

im going with the handbrake idea... mine did that too. i have a 91 FB and it does it only in reverse also. Ive had the pads repleaced and that helped but then i tightened my HB and it stopped...pretty much.

my 91 does it as well, only in reverse. i decided to stop driving in reverse on the highway so it doesn't bother me anymore.
