Anybody know if the lsd from a 300z with its output shafts is the same as the stock open diff with stock output shafts?

Just thought I'd clarify.

I want to use the 300z rear end and inner cv joints and the s13 axles and outer cv joints.

I am trying to figure out if the differential will push the axles out too far though.

The Z32 rear end bolts in to all model 240s, you need to swap the rear cover and the output shafts. For example, if you want to put a Z32 LSD into any 240 you must get the appropriate year 240's LSD output shafts. They are something like $95 a piece from Nissan or you can junk around for them. But if you find them, you just found yourself a 240 LSD anyway, so what's the point. There is a full writeup on a 300ZX LSD install on wwww.240sx.org

Yes, I understand all of that and I already knew that.

What I am asking is can I dissasemble the axles from the two different vehicles and make my own axles that will be the correct length? I have both sets of axles(from the 300z and from my S13), the big question is will the shaft lenth be correct if I swap the inner joints

Well, I measured the differential widths and the axle widths and everything should work out. Now I just have to find out if the inner cv joints will swap out.

I also bolted up my rear 300z calipers and rotors and they actually cleared the stock 4 lug rims.

I am getting so exited! lsd and big brakes for $200!

Are your's worn out or something? I see no logical reason to replace your stock axles and CV joints with Z32 ones unless you happened to get them for free and your current ones are shot to s*** somehow.

No I couldn't get anymore. The guy just happened to have one complete rear subframe with everything on it he wanted to get rid of. I even got the hubs and spindles if I want to do the 5 lug conversion sometime.

trpower7: the reason I am trying to swap the cv joints is because the 300z rear end uses a 5 bolt inner cv joint. So I either need to buy new output shafts or make my own custom cv axles. I did get them for free. Plus the axles from the 300z are a little longer so I have to use the shorter 240sx axles with the appropriate cv joints to bolt to the rear end and to go through the spindle. Hopefully that clears things up a little.

Basically I just don't want to have to spend any money I don't have to. So I really don't want to have to buy new output shafts.

The thing that spaces everything out on the Z is the carriage that holds the vlsd. The carriage is what all of the control arms are bolted to. I think there is four bolts that bolt it to the car. The problem I found on my 89 240 is that its rear carriage bolts down in differnt spots than my 90 Z. The spots are close though and I'm thinking of moving them where they need to be to bolt the Z rear carriage to my 240. My other alternative is to have the Z axles shortened. Either by cutting them in the middle and taking out whats need to make them the right length or have the ends cut down and resplined?

what did you have a write up on? i dissassembled an s14 cv shaft and a N/A 300zx cv and compared them, couldn't swap inner joints, 300zx was thicker shaft and splines....
