Hello I'm pretty sure this has been discussed. I'm looking for the widest/tallest tire I can fit on the stock 20" sport wheels preferably all season tires... Any help will be good thanks !!

Stay with the 40 series sidewall but probably 255 wide is about the max. Technically you could fit a 265 but it probably look too bulged out and not handle as well.

I agree with Wide. At stock height, 255 will likely be the furthest you can. 265's will look weird in my opinion.

Cool deal, be sure to post pics of how they look and any feedback on how they handle, feel, road noise etc.

I think a 275/35 20 would be the ideal upgrade from a 245/40 20 to maintain the correct speedometer calibration while putting a larger contact patch on the road using the stock wheels.

At stock height I think that'll stick out past the fender...not to mention with the lower profile you're increasing the wheel gap.

Also 275 on a 9 inch wide wheel will be very bulky looking.

I think 275 tires on a 9" rim is a bad idea. This chart illustrates why; there is too much overhang. They are going to bulge out and degrade performance.

Never install a tire that's much wider than the rim. A 275 on a 9" rim is completely unsafe, and in the event you have to make a sudden maneuver, the tire can roll under the rim due to the extra slack and cause an enormous accident.

He said these were one of the quietest tires with a good ride, decent performance and long tread life. The treadwear rating is 560. Got 245/40/20 for the front and 275/35/20 for the rear. First impressions after about 100 miles of driving is that yes they are much quieter then the stocks. I don't have to turn up the radio nearly as much when on the freeway. I don't hear the moaning of the tires anymore. The ride is also smoother, going over bumps and the lane dividers its a softer muted transition and not the harsh bumpy ride like before. I haven't pushed it hard so can't really say anything about the handling but the ride is much better, transitions seems stable and seems to track straighter and not follow groves in the road. One thing I notice is that the car seems a slight bit more sluggish, I guess this is due to the increased width and mass. It doesn't seem as crisp when you stomp on it. The 275s are about an inch wider then the 245s. it's not as big a difference as I was hoping for, I was hoping it would look wider. As you can see in the pics it doesn't really look much different then the stock.

Heres a pic of the 245, you can see the sidewall is flush with the rim.

Heres the 275, you can see the sidewalk bulges out a bit.

I do appreciate all your input, but I don't think it's as extreme as you guys believe. Just my .02 though. A 265/40 is more likely to roll in corners than a 275/35 on the stock wheel. I'd actually rather a wider tire on my 20x10s because the 275/35 is stretched out a bit, but I'm a wide tire kind of guy. I know not everyone is.

I don't understand why you would run staggered tires on square wheels..

More importantly, I really hope nobody is running staggered wheels on an AWD model ... :tisk: Puts a lot of unnecessary wear and tear on the ATESSA system and could lead to early failure of the system.

On the X models, you must run identical wheels and identical tires on all four wheels to avoid problems.

Note I did not say that you need to stick with OEM wheels or that you have to stick with a particular brand/size of tire (although there are other constraints too) - just that you need all four wheels to be the "same".

I use 255/35s on mine - bridgestone potenza re970as. Plenty of sidewall for this tire, it is so quiet and less crash than any low profile tire I've ever used.

szh while I agree the overall diameter should be the same I don't see an issue with running different widths front and rear, which is what staggered is. I had 20x9 +25 in the front and 20x10.5 +45 Concept One CS5.0 for the back of my car previously with tires close in overall height, I didn't notice any problems. Could you elaborate on the other constraints for those of us not in the know?
