It's all in the physics, not to mention it adds quite a bit of weight; however, for a g35, it just looks natural to have wider tires. One of the most appealing aesthetic mods for a g35 is getting wider wheels (lowering the car in the process of course).87ninefiveone wrote:Check out the tire article in the new Road and Track. They go through and test a bunch of plus size (i.e wider tread and lower aspect ration) tires on a Mazda Miata. The results are pretty suprising. It suggests that putting wider tires on the car doesn't provide anywhere near the benefit you'd think it does. Quite surprising actually.
I kind of noticed that michelin tends to make their tires wider. Stock tires on the g35's around here use Michelin pilot sports 245, but I've seen G's with 285 and they look so much better. I guess its just the way the G35 is designed. Wider tires just look like they are natural on the car.87ninefiveone wrote:If your into it for the aesthetics you'd better make sure whatever tire your buying is actually wider. I had a car that had stock 205/55-R16 Michelin X One's that physically wider than the set of 225/45-R16's Bridgestone Potenza's that I replaced them with. All tires aren't created equal, no matter what the sidewall says.
Besides unless you increase the front and rear in equal proportion you'll probably just end up adding more understeer to your car anyways.
