What is the advantage of a wideband o2 as opposed to a regular o2 sensor?

Does the o2 sensor on blacktop emulate wideband or is it regular type?

What is the best way to monitor/adjust the a/f ratio without spending a whole lot of money?

Wideband allows you to accurately measure air fuel ratios, unlike narrow band.

All SR20DET O2 sensors are narrow band.

I wideband O2 sensor will cost you about $300+ with all the hardware. Then either a piggy back or standalone fuel mangement system to adjust your fuel flow.

Once you reach the output where narrowband O2 is insufficient for tuning the best thing to do is go stand alone using wideband input.

Wideband is so much more accurate.

Narrowband is never sufficient for tuning.

thanks for the inputso there is no other way to than spend 300+ for the sensor kit?

as far as control, if i had a wideband, would the hks super afr be sufficient. has idle stabilizer too! not too expensive

does the wideband o2 repalce the stock o2 sensor as far as the ecu is concerned, if so, this will improve the performance, right?

Your stock ECU would not know what to do with the wideband wired into it. A wideband is not a replacement for the stock sensor. If anything it should be added to the system, most are sold with weld-on bungs. There really is no need to put it on a stock ECU'd car because you cant tune the factory ECU to get the optimum AFR. But it is good to keep an eye on your AFR in case something goes wrong you can stop before you do major damage. AEM has widebad kits for pretty cheap, ask your dealer, they should be coming out with a gauge to compliment the sensor soon.

some kits also have an adapter (for a fee) that reduces the wideband o2 signal (5v) to the standard o2 signal (1v)

Also wideband o2 sensors aren't as durable. Give them a few months and they'll be past their effective life.

the post about them wearing out in a few months is not true, as long as you dont run leaded gas or octane over about 110.AEM uses a bosch sensor, which come as OEM equipment on some cars. No OEM uses a sensor that wears out in a few months. Here are some notes from the AEM wideband sensor instructions:_________The sensor contains a ceramic module and should not be subject to mechanical or thermal shock or it may be damaged. The sensor is not designed for operation on leaded fuels, doing so will dramatically shorten sensor life.Long term running in the rich region (Lambda < 0.95) will shorten sensor life.High exhaust temperatures (over 850C) will shorten sensor life.Engine oil consumption at a rate greater than 1 quart per1,000 miles will shorten sensor life.Do not run the engine with the UEGO sensor installed without power applied to the controller and the sensor plugged in.-----------------

I'm getting a wideband kit soon. If you have an EGT gauge and WO2 you've got everything you need to tune your car on the highway. Ignition timing is nice, but I don't know anything cheap for our cars that reads it except for the Techtom MDM-100.

how many wires does it have? if it has 5 or 6 then it should be a wideband, if less than 5, then it is a narrow band.

That is only if it can send out wideband and narrowband signal I believe. A strictly wideband o2 only has 3 wires. I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure my friends wideband for his DSM only had 3 wires.

no. 3-wires is a heated o2 sensor.

Ignore my comment above... I was drunk or high on cocaine at the time. Yes a wideband o2 should have at least 5 wires.

this is a good one. has two outputs, one digital for gauge or ems stuff and one that goes to the computer to emulate the stock sensor.pretty sweet

the 300.... the 250 doesn't have a display... and i would rather have the 4 digit digital display than a lazy old autometer gauge... i asked him why they were so cheap from him (before i ordered) and he said that he goes through about 100 per month! so he just lowers the price so word of mouth helps him a lot....
