Hi all,

the aftermarket downpipes on WRX have a wideband location right after the turbo to plug in a wideband o2 sensor. Where should/could i put the bung for a wideband on my s13

From what I know the manifold is the best place for it. I had my EGT probe in there on my WRX, then replaced it with a wideband and have been getting great accurate readings.

AEMOnly told me to put it further downstream than the manifold for a turbo car since it gets so hot. They seemed pretty knowledgeable, so you may want to give them a call.

O2 housing or downpipe should do. Just make sure you do not have any exhaust leaks or your readings will be off.

o2 housing? You mean where the stock o2 sensor is? Can i disconnect that and use the wideband during tuning?

O2 housing as in the turbo elbow that bolts to the downpipe. Retain the stock O2 sensor in the stock location, but get a seperate bung and have it welded to the O2 housing or Downpipe and install wideband sensor. Again, just be sure there are no exhaust leaks and it shouldn't be a problem in either of the locations.

My NGK AFX recommends a minimum of 18" after the turbo, with an optimum distance of 36". I have mine in the stock location and it reads somewhat sporadically. I would suggest you install it near the bottom of the down pipe or in the cat-delete pipe.

My buddy has his Zeitronix mounted at the bottom of his downpipe in his WRX and it reads dead on. Its probably 30" from the turbine outlet.

Mine's located in the cat delete pipe and reads 100% accurate. Far enough away from heat that i leave it in all the time, too.

word I had great luck using my TP. it was also real to remove and have an exhaust shop weld a O2 sensor mount in.

Mine's in the stock O2 sensor location. You CAN NOT put a wideband infront of the turbo. Without going into a long explanation about how widebands work, they can't handle the kind of pressures that are present pre-turbo and still function.

How does your read in that location float? Mine jumps all about as much as +/- .25

Reads fine there. I used to have it right before the cat, but when I would do a pull, it would log the AFR in the next RPM range. It also seemed to make my closed loop a little jerky. I moved it up to the stock location, my AFR's logged in the right RPM range, my closed loop was much smoother, and I've never had any problems with sensor longeivity. I think my sensor has like 30K miles on it. 15K of that is with ethanol though, so, IDK if that makes a difference.

Forgot you were running ethanol. I would run it in a heartbeat if it were easier to get around here. One gas station on the outskirts of town, all the way across town, to the maximum, is not sufficient for daily driver duty.

Hrm... 36", eh? That might be difficult with the plans I have for the Pulsar...

Innovate says as close to the motor as possible, post turbo, but that if it over heats to do one of the following;Move it further awayBuild a heat sink out of a peice of copper Buy their heat sink

The only need for distance is for heat purposes, and the closer the sensor is to the motor the better. I would put it post turbo, and use a heat sink and call it good if you're worried about it.

I have the NGK AFX in the o2 housing after the turbo, the only reason the AFX recommends the distance is for life of the o2 sensor itself. Best read is supposed to be as close to the turbo possible.
