Hey guys just wanted to show ya the DIY wideband that came in. Its pretty wicked I havent messed with the Datalogging portion, working 2 jobs tends to eat up all your time I took pics to show ya guys how it looks. I also came up with what I might do for a case.

In accordance with Greg if you guys still need me to do the assembly just email me so we can keep it off the forum but the offer is the same. [email protected]

Here are pics.

my wideband pwns urs noobshanks.

If I were buying one, I think I would rather have the display in its own little case. That way I could mount the box remotely.

I was wondering wtf happened to your group buy thread. Is that still on or no?

Also, To make it even easier on yourself you can buy an empty male and female d-sub9 connector at radio shack and have that connect to those mini amp terminals. Mount the connector on the case and make another harness with the connector at the end. I'm referring to the wire you have to run for i assume power, ground and the o2 sensor wire. This way when you want to disconnect you dont have to mess with those little terminals. Just unplug the harness you made instead.

I am more concerned with a box around the display so that I can hide the control box behind my radio on the transmission hump and run the serial out so I can mount the display under my center dash vents. Any thoughts on that?

Its not really a group buy, its just me assembling them saves cost for you guys. Me and greg agreed not to call it a Group Buy thats why the other thread were removed. In reality Im just offering my services of assembly for free, and I needed a minimum of 5 people to make it worth my while for you guys.

One of the things for the harness port I was probably just thinking of soldering the wires in its place that way they are more secure.

Well the display will have its own case, thats why I added the brown part that says velcro lol. And the reason is blue is for contrast to show the display is seperate. Also the kit comes with 3FT of cable so you should be able to have it mounted.

Also a thing to note you really dont want your wideband on all the time, like Johngriff mentioned you'll kill your O2 sensors in months because you will need to run richer since your turbod. For daily driving you dont need to have your wideband on.

if anyone is curious I'll be making the case out of lexan, found out LOWES carries it. Im building the case as we read. When its finished I'll show you guys what it would look like.

its a wideband reader, this is one of the most important tools for tuning, this will tell you exactly how rich, stoich, or lean you are. Since its very important for turbo cars as the leaner you are the more in danger your motor will be.

for example 14.7:1 means your stoich, number less than that means your running richer for example 12.5:1 and something like 18.7:1 means your lean.

So when your boosting its important to know your air fuel ratio so you can tune to your needs.

Thats right boy, you'll be numero dos. David sent me a email saying he's gonna send payment. Jeff (Secret Squirrel) is numero tres, so I just need 2 more peeps. As for the case I'm almost finished with the case for the display, its not the prettiest thing in the world but should be cool enough. Than I'll work on the regular case. I'll take pics of the display case.

Here ya go.

Weld O2 bung onto downpipe, screw in Wideband O2 sensor, plug O2 sensor to harness which goes to the wideband reader. Than give the unit power and ground. Wait roughly 30 seconds for calibration than start tuning.

Alright guys heres a pic of the case I made for the display, I know its not the best looking case but hey it'll do.

I'll be painting the case black from the inside and leaving a part taped off for the display.

That looks nifty :D

(Random Q: Wideband O2 sensors replace the factory O2 sensor right?)

It doesnt replace it permanatly, its just for tuning purposes. Wideband sensors generally operate at 0-5 volt type signal. Narrowband sensors which is what the CA uses uses a 0-1 Volt signal, so you cant splice it into the stock wiring and the ecu will read it. A reason is because the stock ecu doesnt have a wideband controller.

Also wideband sensors are very sensitive to heat and turbo cars are usually hotter so the Wideband sensor has to be further down the exhaust system to get accurate readings. So no it wont replace your factory O2 sensor.

The price is $85 with harness for the sensor, $70 without harness. HOWEVER these are prices if 5 people pay. If not than its $90 with harness for sensor and $75 without harness.

I'm pretty sure it will, if you look at the terminal block it says Vout1 and Vout2 u could use one of those and wire it to MS.

I might experiment with it later on my MS or on Secret Squirrels MS when I finish building his.
