Why would I be running lean?

I found out that my car is running a little bit on the lean side. This worries me a bit because the motor is bone stock with the exception of an intake. What could be causing me to run lean?

Also how accurate are the autometer boost gauges? It shows me running at 8psi which would be over the stock boost, which I have not touched? Would it be the boost gauge that isnt accurate or could something be giving me that one extra psi and also causing me to run lean?

How do you know your running lean, and where is the pressure signal for the turbo plumed and where is the boost gauge plumed. That's all information we need to figure out what's going on.

Did you pull your plugs and see they were lean, do you have abnormally high EGT's or are you simply going of the worthless guess-O-meter AF gauge?

Maybe you're not getting enough fuel... what kind of fuel management are you running?

Do you have AF numbers for us then? I'm just curious where it's at. Nissan stock ECU's run rich anyhow.

Yeah the ratio started at ~14 at about 3k rpm and then dipped to 13 at 4.5k rpm and rose back to 14 by about 6.5k rpm.

And as far as management its all stock.

Its stock. Would I have to clean something out maybe? Change the fuel filter?

ugh. There is your answer.

Get a fuel pump. You will run extremely lean on the top end. That is also why your dyno numbers are so low.

is 168 really low for a stock motor? I thought that its just about what i should expect.

14 and 13 aren't THAT lean, it's just that 12~13 is better for turbo cars... as long as you aren't detonating i don't think you have much to worry about... you're getting more power now than if you were to richen it, but you're running hotter than you normally would be. if you're stock w/ only an intake, don't worry about messing w/ fuel management. just make sure you run the highest octane available at the pumps. the extra boost could be from a worn out actuator? these motors are old.

I'd jump on that fuel pump right away, esp if your still running the11 year old pump from your '93. The stock ECU should be tunned a little rich, so the fact that it's running lean should raise some eyebrows. I'd call Kenjuku right away and get a walbro in the mail. I'm pretty sure you could find a few more HP by getting the A?/F back down a little (not to mention happier EGT's and a safer motor).

Let us know if you figure it out

you can tune your car to run rich or lean by turning the little AF thing in the center, near the bottom of the intake manifold. I think clockwise is rich, and lean is CCW. Have fun

Your joking right? That's the IAA valve, Idle Air Adjust...... brings the idle up and down. The only way to halfass adjust the AF ratio is to tweak the TPS to show more or less voltage.
