Hey everyone, on my way to work my ca18det backfired and died, any suggestions why? It will no longer start, though the engine cranks over strong and fast. Before it did this it was running as if it had a boost leak, so I was babying the throttle when driving it. Prior to today it hasn't been ran for a year and has about 2 gallons of gas sitting in the tank. In attempts to get rid of it I was going to drive it empty. I had also put in an additional 2 gallons with fuel stabilizer before I attempted to drive it empty. I'll be checking the compression, timing ele and mechanical, and fuel tommorrow but until then it's on the side of the road somewhere..... Plz any advice is appreciated

Have you checked the ECU for thrown codes? Check them before you unplug the battery or do anything that might clear the codes.

Good idea! I'll make sure to check that. Any other ideas or theory's on why it would be doing this? Also, would a bad engine ground possible cause this? I just relocated the battery to the trunk today and my engine ground set up was only ment to be temporary.

Check for the basics -- fuel and spark. Maybe your injector resistor pack came unplugged? Definitely get your grounds squared away.

And a multimeter can be your best friend for solving wiring gremlins.

Thankfully it was something simple, the CAS fell off... Thanks for the input, I'm going to set the ignition timing before work tomorrow and hopefully I will be in the clear.
