Why won't Compact Flash input detect song files?

I recently tried using my 08 m35x Compact Flash(CF) slot for the first time and it failed. I changed to the CF input and I could see that it was trying to read the card but it said 'No audio files'. Its a 32gb Compact Flash card (CF adapter with micro SD memory). I had quite a few songs and albums on it. Some in their own directories, some loose songs in the root dir. All songs are in .MP3 format.

Does anyone know why these songs are not being detected? My hope was that I would be able to use the CF to upload songs to the car's hard drive. Is this possible?

Thank you in advance!

I've heard this issue from way back. It was suggested to use an 8gb drive. I've been using an 8gb drive for years in two Ms and have no issues. The files load perfectly in the screen and scrolling is as breeze.
