Why two names?

maybe a noob question, I'm sure ill find out by your responses. My question is why people call the Z the Z33. How does 350Z = Z33? I bet the answer is very simple, but I'm willing to humiliate myself for an answer. Thanks in advance guys.

its the generation/body style. really it started with the first gen 300Z = Z31. Then the second gen was the 300ZX = Z32. Last but not least 350Z = Z33. And the 370Z i'm sure will be the Z34...... so on and so forth, until the Z car no longer has a *3* in the title.

It is the chassis code.

Older Z's used S series codes. IIRC, the early Z cars were S30 and S130.
