I just recently dumped a shi.t load of money into my sr. Im not really having regrets but you know how everyone talks crap and says omg if i dumped that kind of money into my mustang or camaro (which everyone owns). just seeing why people chose the sr over the other swaps you could do with the 240

1) sooo much aftermarket support, and cheaper than that of parts for KA and RB... I mean, they don't even make an engine damper for the KA...

2) well, in my case, it was cheaper to find a low mile sr20det than to rebuild my current KA and boost that one with similar mods I have on my sr.

I will however say that my next engine build would be a ka-t.. I mean, those things with a mere t25/t28 @ stock boost feels waay faster than a stock sr

Same...I even bought a 95 KA that I was gonna rebuild and boost...but I traded it in my deal. $ to boost ratio...

Cuz its JDM tyte YO!

In all seriousness, KA's with similar mods will make more power. However KA aftermarket supports sucks (compared) to the SR. Also building a KA to be JUST AS reliable as an SR with similar power is WAY more exspensive.

SR has a cooler valvecover.

SR has way more parts available.

SR has a turbo, STOCK.

SR is jdm.

SR looks cooler in the engine bay.

I just got confused. This topic is asking why the SR20. You stated good reasons but your running a stock KA. Thats all.

Yeah.

I cannot justify it for myself.I know damn well once I put a SR into my car, I would never want to even drive it on the street. TOo much money to risk getting busted by the police here.

So, for me, a SR also means getting a truck and trailer.

Mainly pricing and imo the most "tuner" friendly engine of all the more common swaps for the 240. It doesn't take much to get good horsepower out of the SR and it's easy to work on.

Fulfills my desire to go fast

Great aftermarket support, tuner friendly

Fairly inexpensive swap compared to the alternatives

for those sr owners of us in the CA state...owning the sr does suck but man kpod if you're in PA do the damn swap and get ready to crap yourself the first time you throw your foot down...its like going hyperspeed the first time haha

SR in cali does kind of suck, if it's your DD. Sure you gotta pay some $$$ every couple years to keep it on the streets, some components are only JDM available. But man can that motor haul some ***!! Can't wait to get a DD so I won't have to worry about getting pulled over, car getting stolen by some haters that would love to have my motor and other goodies that I have on the car.

Personally, it was a toss up between a KA and SR for me, I just happened to come across the SR first.

Then again, I was looking for a non-turbo at the time anyway, so it wasn't a huge decision. I loved my SR20DE, super nice 10:1 compression motor (S14), and revs higher and makes the same power as a KA (less a few foot pounds torque, NVCS FTW!).I figured that I was going to turbo one later on anyway, so it didn't matter. However now, I am very glad I went SR, because after looking at KA stock pistons I wouldn't feel safe running boost, but my SR's (from what I've found anyway) are more beefy and I feel better about it.

Just go with what makes you happy, ask some people that have the various engines and see if you can take a test drive!

The SR is a lot of fun though, I get boat loads of low end torque (thanks to nifty variable intake valve timing) and when you start coming on boost, it's just a hit of power. Very awesome. But I suppose you'd get that with any turbo engine...

lol thats sucks so much how you guys on the west coast get pulled over for that ****. I dont think the cops would care/know what your talking about if you told you had an SR when they pulled you over.
