Why the LSx series

V8 240sx? Sure! If either the chassis OR the engine is non-Nissan (i.e. SR20 in an RX-7 or LS1 in a 240sx), we've done it.

I've been doing a lot of research into the V8 swap now for about 3 years. I've tossed every combo possible around in my head. For awhile I was simply going to use a 454 with a set of aluminum heads. Then a simple 383 with aluminum heads...yada yada on down the line.

In the end what you get is a motor that barely if at all out powers the LSx series in friggin stock trim. Yes the 454 is only $1200 in most cases, but after you add a new intake mani, carb and some headers that don't sucka$$ you're in the ball park of the LSx motor after having the heads ported.

Not to mention the weight factor, which I'll admit isn't important to me. But to some the whole handling thing is considered...I drive straight as fast as I can.

Bare in mind I'm also not considering anything that isn't capable of putting down well over 500whp in twin turbo form. No I may not need that much power, but I'd like to be well within the parameter's of safety in the case I want the 6" pen15 extension that comes from a big Dyno number

Also, when you consider that a big cube LSx motor can easily put down over 600hp with no power adders and maintain good street driveability on pump gas, it's tough to beat them.

I haven't even looked at stroker kits for the LS series. I wonder how far you can stroke one...I'm a big fan of the "bigger is better" method.

I think a 408 is about as big as you want to go with the Gen III blocks (LS1/LS6).

Darton offers a dry sleeve kit for the LS2 which allows for 427 and the use of LS7 heads/intake mani (both are GEN IV).

Also, the Warhawk block from World allows for up to 454 cubic inches. The C5R and LSX blocks might allow for the same...not sure.

Ahh im looking at them now. Flavors from 383, 389, 409, and 427.... Im thinking of the 409 stroker. NA tuned with 60# injectors, LS6 or similar 64CC heads (11.2:1), and a 90MM intake and Throttle body your looking at 480-530 RWHP

Just the stroker kit is $3600. I think I'll stay with FI.

I have a local speed shop that can do the kit for under 3000 so I'm gonna go that route. That and I love that low end power, I wanna get the front wheels lifted on my LS powered S13

The 383 stroker kit, you can get lower comp forged pistons. All forged and stroked with FI. Power, but you might want to lose the R200 then.

Ivan from AMS Racing is launching his 240 at full boost and is retaining the stock R200. He's running just shy of 160mph in the 1/4 and cutting 1.6 60' times. Although his is transferred via slushbox, so the shock isn't AS bad, but still rough. The R200 is very stout IMO, but I'd enjoy the power it takes to shear the gears off!!!

The R200 cannot break. It is invincible.



No, I really have no idea. I just know that R200s have survived many 8 and 9 second passes so it's not something many people ever have to worry about. I may add a diff cooler or at least the GReddy larger capacity diff cover. Doubtful that will prevent it if it's going to happen due to power, but probably do it just in case. I also went with a Carbon Fiber driveshaft to reduce some of the "shock" that WD was referring to.

If anything, the driveshafts worry me more then the diff. By d/s I mean the short shafts from the diff to the hub.
