Why the CA over the SR?

I have that motor apart at the shop to overhaul it. It still has a beautiful crosshatch on the cylinders and the only sign of wear is the rod bearing on #1 worn down on the foward edge. Every CA I have ever seen that gives up spins a rod bearing so I am not suprised to see this. I am playing with the idea of crossdrilling the crank to give more oil to the rod journals, thoughts?

Be wary of compromising rigidness. After 6 years of fondling CA18's, I've only seen one let go and that was because it was a high-mileage CA18DE bought from a junkyard here in Miami. None of my DET engines have let go from that area, however, I have sent a few pistons to their early graves.........
