Sooooo

Firs time I went to the track a few weeks back. I did a 13.8 @ 101.34, stock boost, stock tune, Mickey Thompson ET Street 255/50/16's, and the clutch was slipping a tiny bit on the launch, and smelled pretty bad.

And that was in COLORADO at 5800 feet elevation.

Welll, today, I figured hell, ordering a new clutch tomorrow, ltes see what itll do.

Now its on 12psi, tuned, and running much quicker....welll.was...

Ran a 14.2 the first time, clutch slipped bad coming outta the hole and going into second. Figured **** it.

Went again.

14.0 @ 99. Clutch slipped HORRIBLY on the launch, slipped about 1500-2000 rpm going into second, and even worse going into third.

Get the the ticket booth to get my time slip, and try to pull away....ya....not happeneing.

Was able to limp it home, barely going over 60. Anything above 15% thrttoel and it starts to slip bad, and I can actually put the car in first at a stop, and let the clutch all the way out, and it doesnt kill the car....

Soooo, lesson leanred, before you do a motor swap, dont use the stock Nissan clutch...

Just ordered this bad boy... The one I ordered is good for 630 ft lbs...

Now my QUESTION is:

Can you pull JUST the transmission out to do a clutch replacement on an RB25 S14, or does it require pulling the motor since there is limited room. Im running the McKinney Mounts...

Not just the stock clutch, but the stock turbo too... Isn't it the T3 with the ceramic turbine that likes to destroy itself over 12psi?

Thats the one! If you look at my other threads though I already got a bigger turbo project going on...

you needed a wasted day at the track to determine this?

That's weird, mine hasn't slipped ever(50+ launches) and I pretty much just rev and dump off the line (not very effective though) with an rb25, Hx35@14psi and nistune, doing 13.77@113. Though I have to pull the motor now anyway, I guess I'll see if I have an aftermarket one in there...It's not unheardof.

hey now, you're the one who thought it'd be a good idea to swap a used motor, with the factory used clutch and expect it to perform at the drag strip. the oem clutch works just fine in an every day driver application. it wasn't meant for the abuse of drag racing.

I have a sr and the same thing happened to me. It was slipping but still drivable. I had a intercooler pipe pop off on the highway and after i stopped to put it on i had to give it a pretty aggressive start to get to speed fast enough and after that, the clutch was useless. Nothing left. Cant even back out of my driveway anymore. I feel your pain. Also, i live in Colorado haha.

shouldn't have to pull the whole motor, if you can't get the motor mounts to move enough to get the trans out, just hook it up to the hoist, unbolt the motor mounts, lift the hoist enough to just hold the weight of the motor and you can tilt the motor back as much as the hoses will allow you to.

I was running Mickey Thomspon ET Streets, so that might have been my issue, it slipped more then it launched with those thigs....

Clutch will be ehre tomorrow.

So what your saying is you kept the USED clutch on that came with your swap or you bought a oem clutch and expected it to hold.

You are officially a moron for complaining about something you already knew would happen.

Wow harsh guys, very harsh. I dunno if he was really complaining, maybe just stating something that happened as a lesson for others.

Exactly, kinda of a "things to do vefore you swap" note for others and lesson learned...

Clutch is done and already got 62ish miles of break in done.

Took us about 7-8 hours.

Hardest part was trying to get the top trannie bolt out, and getting the transmission back in, but we got it!

So far its way different then stock. Super stiff pedal feel, harash engagement, almost to the point where its an off switch, haha, PERFECT!

I can definately tell the old clutch was going bad even befre it started slipping. Car drives smoother, responds quicker, pulls hills better, and a really nice perk, and IDK how, but way better gas mileage.

Heres whats left of the old disk haha

Better gas mileage because the engine doesn't have to use as much to move

Got her broken in today, wasnt busy so I took a nice trip around Colorado. Miz of highway/traffic/normal daily driving. 300+ miles

Got to run my friend tongight from 60-130 in his Grand Prix that ran a 12.9, dead even.

Never could do that on the old clutch.
