Just curious. I have been into import tuning for 6 years now and cant remember much coming out of Georgia, SC and such. I get into this forum and the soultheast apparently is screaming with 240's.

I am in Dallas and the Nissans are coming around. we have several SRs floating around, but the only RB I know of in the area is sitting in a forgotten front clip. Oh, there is one motorex R32 around too.

Why is it that NASCAR territory is innundated with 240's? sorry if this sounds pointless, but I have a marketing bacground and my mind is trained to think in demographics.

I think there are a couple of factors that play into it. First of all, the south is known for nicer cars. Simply because they can be driven year 'round and we don't have to worry about salt and snow and salt and salt.

And I think we can agree the southwest (socal) has the largest import following. This is probably due to the fact that most import modification companies are based in CA. That, and it's the closest port to Japan. That created the whole "west coast" import scene.

To fight back, the east coast has proven to be a strong scene. The east coast has tried to prove itself to the west coast, and it has accomplished just that. Also, the east coast is more populated.

To top it off, FL is very similar to CA as far as demographics go when it comes to the way money is spent. The largest number of exotic cars are owned in FL and CA because that's where people like to spend their money. This trickles down to the import enthusiasts.

And finally, ironically I don't think this next thing has a ton to do with it, but NICO is based in Orlando (which is in the southeast). But I say I don't think this has anything to do with it because Nico has brought together thousands of people from around the world that don't even realize where Nico's home base is.

Hope this helps, or atleast gives you some idea.

Ya, I can dig it. Just looking for good conversation.

I kinda left FL out of the equation because I have been a long time VW nut and I have seen a lot of stuff out of FL. Hell, my GTI was purchased in Miami. FL has definately got their import scene going on.

Texas is coming along pretty good to help rep the south. It seems we dont get a lot of notice because most of our good cars are all go no show. 1,000hp supras with no body kit and such. We got all of the parts we need and plenty of people who can fab anything. There are a lot of big money guys building outlandish cars, and that helps. But for the most part, no body kit = no mag feature.

I wonder what goes on in GA, NC, SC ALA and such. For instance, on the way back from a VW show in New Jersey, we crossed thru Georgia and the Carolinas...pulling a drag prepped car. Driving thru SC, I look over and see a trailered Mazda RX-3, full drag, crazy race-style paint job, a total PR dragger and thought "where the hell did that come from?".

So what's up SE people? What the hell IS going on down there? Further more, where are the southwest peeps?

Yeah, I always had the question of why Southern Florida such a breeding ground...for 240s specifically.

I lived in Oregon for 17.5 years before I moved to SC 6 months ago. SC definitely has more sports cars and such, just because of the nicer year-round whether. For the most part, there's no need to store a car during the winter here, whereas in OR rain and snow were a frequency depending on which part of the state. I did happen to live in a snowy region and if I'd had my 240 up there I'd probably have been forced to buy a beater.
