I've got the full-size spare tire on right now. I'm wondering why the owner's manual says to not exceed 50 mph. I can understand that if I had a donut or something, but assuming a properly torqued (98 ft-lb) full size spare is installed, can't I go above 50mph? Or am I misinterpreting the manual, since this warning is under the "TEMPORARY USE ONLY spare tire (if so equipped)"?

The owner's manual states that the temporary use spare is U.S. only, yet my car was purchased in the U.S. and I have a full size. Was it a factory option or something?

Temporary tires. I would assume they mean the donuts smaller cars carry and im assuming the manual has been done generically for all nissan rides and they just never bothered to change it

The temp spare is probably not a full load-rated tire, to save on weight.

IIRC, the "full-sized" spare on my 2001.0 PF was NOT the same as the four regular tires. It's a little smaller and less aggressive
tread.

Mine is identical in terms of tire spec (whatever the P255... is) with the other tires, and looks about the same size.

i believe it's mostly due in part to the fact that the spare is not normally torqued down to spec and the difference in wheel. i think my spare steel wheel is slightly different in wheel width (maybe a 0.5" narrower, but i'd have to double check), and if the width is different, i wouldn't doubt it if the offset was slightly different too.

if the wheel is exactly the same, then i'd put it more on the fact that the wheel isn't properly nor accurately torqued down (torque range is 87-108, but our shop always errs on the higher end of the torque range when given a range), which can result in a "wheel-off" situation and can cause some serious damage.

if you rotate your spare in and out in your rotations (like i used to on my WD21 when i had all matching wheels and tires), then you can drive as fast, as you please. you can drive normally even if you don't do that and torque it down properly.

My spare is the same Bridgestone as the original 4 tires. Mounted it up and was using it last few years for winter.
