So reading up on the archived forums and current ones, I'm already learning more and more, but questions will always arise. With myslef running a ka24e, and alot more power, it seems doing a de swap and setting up a turbo is a route to go. I've seen this done many times here (and read both the great tutorials) but I sit back and wonder: has anyone shoved a silvia 6spd onto a modified ka24de? Is this really possiable? The reason this comes up is because in my head, if you have a transmission that was made for an engine that produces 145 hp, and then you jump that to almost 300 (I understand that number is created by a bit more then just a little turbo), wouldn't you want to go with a 6 spd transmission from something like the SR20DET?Or maybe I'm just too much of a n00b for my own good. I tried searching for 6 speed conversions and came up short, so I thought I'd take a shot in the dark and post here.~Nick

Nissan 6 speed trannies arn't good - they are weaker than the 5 speed (the s15 and later model z32s had 6 speeds and they were pretty craptastic). If you really wanted to swap one in you could, but being larger than the 5 speed transmission I have heard you have to do a lot of chopping of the interior.

The SR motor has a different bell housing and takes a different clutch than the KA. That's why every body gets the transmission with their swap.

In addition to that, the six speed has no speed sensor. The S15 has the speed sensor in the rear differential. The transmission is most easily installed with the driveshaft and differential from the jdm car, as the transmission is longer.

I don't believe there is any issue fitting it in the transmission tunnel though.

the 6 spd is weaker because they basically shoved an extra gear in the same space as the 5 speed...so all the gears are thinner

If you've "got" to have a 6-speed, some people have swapped in T56s (Viper, Corvette, Camaro/TA & Cobra) which is pretty strong & can be had in stronger versions from a few different places. The hot-ticket now is to use a Z32 transmission with a conversion kit from Mazworx...
