Why no 120V power inverter in 2016?

We bought our 2016 QX80 without even considering there was no built in power inverter as we have it in our 2014 Pathfinder. I downloaded the 2015 QX80 FSM that shows it was included then. Anyone know why it was discontinued?

Hmmm - It doesn't seem like there is much activity on this website.

There's plenty of activity, but only if somebody has an answer for you. I don't.

Fair enough. As I like to contribute to forums, I'll investigate the answer myself & report back.

Well, it seems even the Infiniti dealership cannot answer that question. The service manager guessed it had to to with trim level, but we just traded our QX80 for a 2018 certified used QX60 at the same dealership with top trim level and that doesn't have 120V either. I guess they just did away with it. Bummer.

You can always DIY it. You can get 2kW from Harbor Freight for a lot cheaper than the factory accessory, and that lets you add covered marine outlets anyplace in the car that you like.

Follow the money. Infiniti's failed attempt to capture the European market (they finally pulled out in early 2020) would have required a 240V/50Hz inverter and that would cost the company more to maintain another expensive part offering on an already anemic profit margin overseas. Margins were not much better in the USA either, so dropping the 120V/60Hz inverter altogether makes sense from an economics point of view.
