Because redtops are cheaper and easier to find, that's what i've lead to believe.

Also, i BELIEVE the redtops were only produced in 89 and 90, blacktops came out in 91+ ?

Well, you're both partially right. : ) CA18s were 89-90, redtops were 91-94.

Redtops are cheaper and have high port injection, they're easier to come by and when you modify everything there really isn't much difference in the engines besides the fact that the others are newer and have low port injection and VVT which people don't really want anyways.

what is low port injection and high port injection. What is VVT also?

I know VVT stands for Variable Valve Timing, Nissan's version of VTEC, I really don't understand why we don't want it, anyone explain that? I believe the injection is where the fuel injectors are located within the plenum(i could be wrong on that one)

The reason you dont want it is because it barely makes a difference in base HP(the turbo makes the HP jump for the SR's); and two it will have to be disengaged if you begin to start tuning the SR's. The blacktop S13 advantage is that it is newer, coming out of the Nissan 180SX which was produced until 1998. So you can either have an engine as little as 4 yrs old or one up to 12 yrs old. Mine is 9 yrs old I believe.
