I have a rb25det S1 with AEM ems. I also have Lq7-lq9 coil packs with the integrated heat sync in the rear. When I set up the timing light to adjust timing, I got nothing. Thinking that my timing light was going out on me, I purchased another. Both lights are not working. The original light might flash once a minute. The second light flash but it is super faint. What kind of timing light do I need to get?

Do you have spark plug wires or a COP setup with the LS coils? If plug wires, then just clip the sensor over the #1 plug wire. If COP, you need to get the sensor around the #1 coil pack signal wire.

I have gone through 3 cheap timing lights and have only set my timing maybe a dozen times. The timing lights that O'reilly's or Autozone sells are absolute Chinese made junk. Actually, the guy at Autozone said if I buy the light, I cannot return it. The sale is final. I'm like, "uh what if it is broken before I even open the package?" He said, "Sorry sir." Long story short, it wouldn't surprise me if both timing lights were bad.

Try the light on another coil too. I have actually had one bad LS coil throw me for a loop for days.

Also, if there is no signal to the coils, you could have a bad CAS or CAS wiring.
