why is this latch here?

There's a latch at the front of the manual sunroof on my '93 SE. Does anyone know what it's for? It seems completely useless since the hinges hold the sunroof on. Thanks.

Well if it's like mine which I think it is, it keeps the moonroof from folding all the way up. You see, on the handle which you grab to put the moonroof up, on either side there are buttons, you push both puttons in and you can pull the handle out and if you undo the latch in the front you can raise it up 90 degrees.

If its like mine, You flip that latch. Then disconnect the handle in the back using the two black buttons.

Flip the sunroof up to 90degrees and then slide sideways. Way-la. removeable.

Yeah.. thats how you remove your sunroof..

the rear latch that pops it open 15 degrees, theres 2 black buttons on the left adn right of it.. push both those in, and you can pop the latch out.. then in the front theres a little knob/puller.. pull it to the left, and it releases the front of the latch, then lift up 90 degrees, and pull to the left. your sunroof is now off.

yeah but why does it need to be removeable? I always used to wonder if there was a reason.

so your passenger can stand up out the sunroof and shoot.

Because it can't slide back without hanging over the glass/possibly being hit by the windshield whiper. Also, it is the lightest/cheapest way to have a sunroof, and its the ONLY way I will have one, considering the small amount of weight added, by just having to pull a couple clips and such.
