Why is nissan so stupid and has to put a cvt. Why Couldn't they have used a regular auto. I don't care about the shift shocks or the mpg. If I cared about an mpg I would buy a small economic car, like really what the freak. I like the altima but for god sake why put a stupid useless technology like a cvt transmission that doesn't last long. I have a camry and not has the regular automatic transmission gone out. That is the only thing holding me back from buying a nissan. I saw an 07 altima that I like but has cvt, I see another nissan altima 11 with same package SL with a damn cvt. Why nissan just why do you need to put a cvt. :inout: :gotme :tisk:

Stop unnecessarily torturing yourself! If you aren't comfortable with Nissan's CVT or CVTs in general just don't buy a car with a CVT. :yesnod Asking a rhetorical of why Nissan uses CVTs in their cars is a waste of your time and doesn't help you. There are still plenty of late model cars available that use the traditional 5+ speed automatic transmission. Consider looking into late model Hondas, Mazdas, Hyundais, etc as alternatives to the Altima. :yesnod

Easy solution: Buy a manual transmission car.

I'm no fan of the CVT, but it has its place. I wouldn't call it "stupid useless technology," considering it's pretty advanced and has several advantages.

I also wouldn't be so sure about shortened longevity, considering we have people here on the forums with well over 200K on a CVT-equipped car.

See those pics at the bottom of your post? There's a great place to start looking for a non-CVT Altima. :)

Good luck, and welcome aboard!

Plenty of Nissan alternatives.

I'm assuming you're looking for a sedan that is similar to your camry - however it doesn't look like you're interested in driving stick as the Altima is available in 5MT or 6MT up until model year 2009 - you just have to look for them.

The easy solution is to look more towards a used Infiniti G sedan as even with an automatic they're available in 5AT or 7AT. It depends on what you want to spend. They're super great reliable cars and a step nicer than an Altima. Plenty of power, yet fairly practical.
