Why is my transmission smoking?

Yes, my 5-speed transmission is literally sending wafts of smoke up through the shift boot.

I pulled up trim pieces to see if perhaps any wires were lying where they shouldn't be and thus getting too hot, but I saw no evidence of such.

It just started today after the car had been running for a while. Kind of made me wonder what might be going on.

It still shifts just fine, clutch feels fine, all seems normal...just don't understand this excess heat.

Sounds like a transmission seal went south on ya and is sprayin some fluid on your exhaust.

Jack up the car and have a peak.

Cool, thanks for the help ya'll. I'm gonna pull it up on ramps today and take a looksie. Guess the most logical answer is the seal.
