I really dont understand why my car is running so rich. Im getting some horrible gas mileage - about 14-15 MPG. I smell lots of fuel during idle and I get a strong stench after a hard pull. The car also backfires all the time when decelerating from 2k-1k rpms. I know my atmos. BOV plays a role here. Its just crazy how similar 240's with similar mods get almost double the gas mileage Im getting. My car is also untuned. Does anyone know if tuning will help with my situation?Mods:FMIC, BOV, 3in exhaust to Stock Exhaust, Walbro 255, and others that arent significant.

Maybe your FPR ( fuel pressure regulator) is bad, Mine was and it was sending too much fuel pressure to my injectors.

What motoe are you running,S13 S14??

yeah same here, I set everything I know correctly, and I smell fuel in my car after getting on it. I think it might be my 02 sensor, but im not sure. I should ohm it out and see if it still works

To check if your stock FPR is bad hook up a fuel pressure gauge to your inlet fuel hose(the one with the fuel filter) and check the pressure. I believe it should be around 35psi at idle and at WOT(wide open throttle) it should read around 44psi. To check WOT fuel pressure just remove the vaccum line to the FPR when you are at idle.

hope this helps.

I believe the correct term for the effect of running rich and left over fuel igniting as it hits the air is called afterfire. Sometimes I get a loud popping noise sometimes when I take my foot off the accel after WOT, but I can't get behind my car to see if it's afterfire and it seems to happen randomly.

I'm having a similar problem. I had the car tuned on a dyno, but then I stored the car for about 5-6 weeks with the battery disconnected. Now it backfires again.

backfires w/ flame come from having no CAT...the CAT will filter the raw fuel and it wont ignite, just pop...if you want it to stop, then get a car that isnt tuend for performance

In reality, the question is metaphysical. Why is my SR running so rich? Why does the Sun rise? Why are we here?

Somethings simply are.

let me change the question to - Why is my SR running so "abnormally" rich?

make sure the BOV is on correctly and everythings screwed on tightly. My friend had a lose screw in his and it was causing the same gas mileage problems
