Why is my M35 rattling on freezing days?

Two times now, this morning especially, my M35x (2008 93,000 miles) upon accelerating past 45-50, began to rattle so much that it was difficult to control the car over 50. It took about an hour to get back to normal, but has anyone ever experienced anything like that? It's almost like some sensor, or some system controlling high speed stabilization was frozen over, but how can that be? It was bizarre, and not a little unsettling because this is a car that has easily chewed up the road at 90 mph, so to have it rattling like this at 435mph?

Is your service engine soon light on? Go to an autozone to get codes read and post them.

Check the snow and ice sitting on your inner rims.

That is On Point! in freezing snowy weather this will be a big cause of that. Or packed into the wheel wells and around the suspension. That has happened to me many times. The rattle could be caused by other things, but not likely because you don't have my M so therefore are far ahead of the curve :chuckle:

Re- the suggestion on ice in inner rims. I thought that too. The first time the shaking occurred, there was so much frozen snow packed in there that it was actually touching the tires. This time, there was nothing in the rims at all, thus my concern. Afraid I may have to bring it in, but I hate doing that because I swear that every other time I bring it in to Infinti, they seem to find $500 or more of needed repairs on things I'm not car savvy enough to know whether I can get the same thing done somewhere else for half the cost. That's one skill I wish I developed. I can wire a generator to my main house panel, repair a computer, replace a faucet etc, but beyond changing tires and fluids, I'm pretty auto stupid.

I totally understand what you mean. It is very true that the dealer may find other items that need "repair" when you take your car in. But to touch on the subject of not being savvy with cars, may I suggest seeing if maybe a local community college has an intro to automotive class? It never hurts to learn! That's how a lot of us get to be savvy! :) as far as diagnosing the issue, if you don't have any friends that can help, the dealer may be your best option or a trustworthy local shop.

Check you brake calipers to see if they are frozen shut. I just had a similar problem.
