why is my check engine light on?

yesterday, i took off my valve cover and used aircraft remover to take off the black paint. i didn't have enough time to finish painting it so i put the cover back on my car and drove home. but today i was driving around town and noticed that my "check engine" light came on. does any one have any ideas as to why my light is on?

Did you forget to put back the giant valve cover hose? I did when I replaced my valve cover gasket.
