92 240sx hatch

stock ka24de

My car overheats (goes to 1 bar from the top of the temp gauge) after about 5 minutes of driving

if i let it sit in a parkinglot though, it will idle or if i rev it to 2-3k rpm it wolnt overheat at all (stays 2 bars from the bottom of the gauge)

i replaced the t-stat with a new OEM one that i tested to be good (opens in a pot on the stove at 170)

i bought a used radiator as well because my stock one was cracked.. this one is a OEM radiator and is in decent condition.

i cant See any leaks but when the car overheats it shooots a ton of water out into the overflow resivor and then that spills out the hole in it...

try flushing it.

but it sounds like your pump. your water is not flowing all the way around to cool your block.

im having the same problems atm. ive repaced the radiator / thermostat upper and lower radiator hoses but it still over heats so the only things left are the water pump / traped air bubbles and headgasket and dear fkn god i hope it not the headgasket.

the first suspect would be air. you need to park car on incline and run engine with rad cap and bleeder valve open. it is very difficlut to get air out and a small amount of air will cause a lot of problems. especially after replacing rad or stat

I too have this same problem, care idles fine and revs fine but when i drive it for about five mins the temp jumps up. Mine already has a new rad, cap, pump and thermostat though (cracked the radiator and pump was already chirping). Only started acting up after a week of flawless performance, so i'm gonna flush mine as i think some rtv is suspect (bastard clog). No smoke, no smells, drives great...i miss my car so much, i'm tired of driving this chevy..

Likely to be either trapped air in the engine (open the air relief valve) or a bad water pump. the pump is cheap and easy to replace.

If those don't work then start thinking about coolant blockages in the head/block.
