why is it that when i put the car in neutral the car dies

ok i have a 1985 corolla gts (i know its not a nissan but...) and when i shift the car into neutral the car loses charge and loses power and shuts off. is it a distributor timing, some vacumm line maybe? i dunno i just need some help cause its so irritating.

could be the neutral switch is done for.
